
Jammu & Kashmir's premier examination for state civil services (KAS)
The JKPSC Combined Competitive Examination (KAS) is conducted by the Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission to recruit officers for the Kashmir Administrative Service and other allied services, including various Group A and Group B administrative positions in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
The Prelims is an objective-type screening test with two papers of 200 marks each. There is 1/3rd negative marking. Paper II is qualifying with a 33% threshold. Prelims marks are not counted toward final merit.
The Mains examination has 8 descriptive papers. The English paper (300 marks) is qualifying. The remaining 7 papers — Essay, GS I–IV, and two Optional Subject papers — carry 1500 merit marks.
The Personality Test assesses the candidate's suitability for a career in public service, testing mental alertness, analytical ability, social cohesion, and awareness of J&K-specific issues.
